Step 1: Select your type

Step 2: Refrigerator dimensions — measuring depth

Refrigerators come in two depths: they’re either virtually flush with your countertops or they extend past them.

Does your kitchen have an island?

Measure the space in front of the refrigerator so doors and drawers can open without getting dinged.

Step 3: Refrigerator dimensions — how wide is a fridge (measuring width)

Measure from wall to counter, cabinet to cabinet or whatever may be on either side of your refrigerator space.

 

NOTE: If your refrigerator is located next to a wall, leave 2½ inches (6.35cm) between the wall and the hinge side of the door so it can swing open.

 

Measure the space in front of the refrigerator so doors and drawers can open without getting dinged.

Now that you’ve got your refrigerator measurements, add a little space on all sides for proper ventilation so it can cool things down without overheating.

Step 6: Map out a path
