Top Whirlpool® Range picks
Ranges with the features and capacity for your family’s needs.
Most ranges on the market today will come in a 30” width. There are some smaller sized ranges - often called apartment-sized- that come in 24” and in higher-end ranges, you’ll find some larger sizes like 36”, 48” and even 60” widths.
Rear control ranges are likely what you’re most familiar with. These ranges have a control panel on the back of the range. A front-control range will not have a console on the back and instead will have all of its controls on the front. Front control ranges are generally considered to be higher end as they provide a bit more of a seamless integration into the kitchen.
Slide-in ranges are a variation of front-control ranges and are often used interchangeably, although this is not correct. A slide in range will most often have unfinished sides and a cooktop surface that extends beyond the edges of the surrounding countertop. These can require some extra consideration when installing them.
Yes. Most ranges will have leveling feet to allow you to level the range. Leveling the range is important as it make the cooking surface on top level.
A gas range will have the cooktop and oven powered by gas. A gas oven will generally be a moister heat, making it a great choice for roasting meats. Generally speaking, gas ovens will not perform as well as electric ovens when it comes to broiling and temperature fluctuation.
Dual-fuel ovens, on the other hand, allow for a gas cooktop and electric oven. An electric oven will generally have a drier heat and less temperature fluctuation, making them a great choice for baking.
Generally speaking all 30” electric ranges will require a 40AMP breaker but be sure to consult the electrical tag on your range to determine if this is the correct amperage for your range. Larger ranges will generally require more amperage.
Convection cooking introduces a fan to circulate hot air around the oven for more even baking and roasting. Using convection cooking settings will often require you to adjust the temperature of your oven down by about 25F or adjust the cook time down since the oven will experience more even heating.
True Convection (sometimes called European Convection) still uses a fan to circulate air but also adds a third, circular element around the convection fan to increase heat circulation and cooking evenness even more.
Some ovens are equipped with self cleaning options while others aren’t. Ovens not equipped with any self cleaning cycle will require manual cleaning.
Ovens equipped with a pyrolytic (or high heat) self cleaning use super high oven temperatures to burn oven soils to ash. These cycles will generally take 4-6 hours to complete and will generate a lot of smoke/odors. Ensure your kitchen is properly ventilated and beware that pyrolytic self-cleaning cycles are dangerous for small pets such as birds and for people with breathing problems.
The other self-cleaning option is Aqualift steam clean which uses gentler heat to create steam and clean the oven in about 40 minutes. This cycle is meant to be used immediately after a spill in the oven to work as intended.
