Air Fry Saskatoon Berry Turnovers
By Kirsten Buck @bucknakedkitchen
Baked goods were hard to come by growing up in the north, so we improvised! 2 slices of white bread, pie filling, and margarine. Cut the crusts off, make a sandwich and toss it in a greased cast iron sandwich press! We made these on stove top, or when we went camping and they hit the spot and felt like such a treat! These turnovers are a little fancier, but just as easy to make using store-bought butter puff pastry! The best part? Homemade Saskatoon berry filling. Fold together, crimp the edges, and air fry until crispy in the Whirlpool® 7-in-1 Air Fry Oven! Easy and delicious!

Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen saskatoon berries (or blueberries)
- ¼ cup Maple syrup
- Juice of 1 medium navel orange
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 package butter puff pastry, defrosted according to package instructions
- 1 egg
- cane sugar or icing sugar, for sprinkling
Directions
- Add the saskatoon berries, maple syrup, orange juice and zest to a pot over medium heat. Cook, stirring often until the berries and softened, about 10-15 minutes. Dissolve the cornstarch into 1 tablespoon of water, then pour into the saskatoon berry mixture. Remove the pot from the heat, and stir until the mixture is a thick, jam-like consistency.
- Roll out the butter puff pastry, and cut into 4-6 equal size squares, depending on the pastry length. Spoon the saskatoon berry filling into the centers of each square. Fold the pastry over to form a triangle, and crimp the edges together tightly with a fork.
- Whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water, and brush the egg wash onto the tops of the pastry. Line the air fry basket with parchment paper, and lightly spray with cooking oil. Transfer the pastries into the basket, and sprinkle with sugar. Air fry in the Whirlpool® 7-in-1 Air Fry Oven at 425℉ for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown. For a deep golden colour, leave for an additional 2-3 minutes watching closely.
- Enjoy with a dusting of icing sugar.
