Wall Oven Sizes & How to Measure
Adding a wall oven can provide a versatile solution for upgrading an old oven, remodeling a kitchen, or just adding extra baking and roasting ability to your kitchen.
A wall oven has to be the right size for your kitchen, which means knowing the dimensions of your space.
In order to make it easier for you and your family to choose the right wall oven size, our guide will explore the common types of wall ovens and their corresponding sizes and dimensions, as well as how to properly measure.
Standard Wall Oven Sizes: What Are They?
It is available to find wall ovens classified as 24 inches, 27 inches, or 30 inches wide; however, these measurements can vary depending on the precise model and manufacturer. For example, an oven may measure 30 inches wide, though it may in fact be 29¾ inches.
It is also important to pay attention to the different installation options such as:
Proud
A unit installed in a standard application will sit proud or forward of the cabinets.
Flush
In a flush inset installation, the front of the unit rests flush or on the same plane as the surrounding cabinetry.
Cutout Dimensions?
In deciding which cabinet cutout you will need, it will be necessary to determine whether your appliances will be mounted proud or flush. The installation of some appliances cannot be flush. If your appliances can be installed flush, you will need a larger cutout than if you intend to mount them proud. However, you should always refer to the manufacturer's installation guide.
For most applications, the size of the opening or cutout needed for installation is critical. Single wall ovens, double wall ovens, or combination wall ovens and microwaves with varying capacities and dimensions are available.
Below are some typical dimensions found on wall oven cutouts:
Cutout Dimensions for Single Wall Oven
As a general guide, the following dimensions are useful for determining what might be available for your kitchen. However, it is important to check the manufacturer's recommended cutout dimensions before buying a model.
Please note: the dimensions listed below indicate the general ranges of wall oven sizes. They may not reflect all the wall ovens on the market today.
30-inch wall ovens:
- Cutout Height: 27¼ - 28 inches tall
- Cutout Width: 28½ - 28⅝ inches wide
- Cutout Depth, excluding door frames and handles: 23½ - 24 inches deep
27-inch wall ovens:
- Cutout Height: 27⅝ - 28 inches tall
- Cutout Width: 25¼ - 25½ inches wide
- Cutout Depth, excluding door frames and handles: 23½ - 24 inches deep
24-inch wall ovens:
- Cutout Height: 23 7/16- 23 3/4 inches tall
- Cutout Width: 22 15/16 - 23 3/4 inches wide
- Cutout Depth, excluding door frames and handles: 21 9/16- 22 ⅜ inches deep
Cutout Dimensions for Double Wall Ovens
For double wall oven installation, the general widths and depths will remain the same as single wall ovens. However, the height they require may vary. These are some typical range cutout dimensions for double wall ovens:
30-inch models:
- Cutout Height: 50¼ - 51 13/16 inches
Whirlpool wall ovens are available in electric and offer a range of capacities including single, double, and combination. If you've chosen an electric option, we offer a variety of electric wall ovens with capacities ranging from compact single to double widths.
27-inch models:
- Cutout Height: 50¼ inches tall
Cutout Dimensions For Combination Wall Ovens
For combination wall oven installation, the width and depth requirements are usually the same as double and single wall ovens. Your oven and microwave capacity will determine the height.
The following are common oven combo cutout heights:
30-inch models:
- Cutout Height: 41 5/16 - 43 7/16 inches
27-inch models:
- Cutout Height: 41⅛ - 41 5/16 inches
What Are the Dimensions of My Current Wall Oven Cutout?
Step 1: Take out your existing wall oven
The wall oven you currently have should be removed from the cabinet cutout or wall to ensure precise measurements.
Step 2: Determine the cutout width
Use a measuring tape to determine the width of the cutout from edge to edge.
Step 3: Determine the cutout depth
To determine the depth of your wall oven cutout, measure from the wall to the front of the cabinet face, excluding the cabinet door. A typical cabinet depth is 24 inches.
Step 4: Determine the cutout height
Take note of the distance between the top of the cutout opening and the bottom to determine the height of the cutout. This distance will differ greatly between a single wall oven and a double wall oven.
What Else Should I Know Before Purchasing a Wall Oven?
There are a number of things to consider when choosing the right oven after you determine the space you have.
The range of features and styles can be tailored to meet your specific needs.
The capacity of the internal oven
In general, wall oven capacity is expressed in cubic feet.
Typically, a larger wall oven means more cooking capacity, while a smaller oven means less internal cooking space.
There are several possible capacities for single wall ovens:
- 24-inch wall ovens: May provide you with around 2-3 cubic feet of cooking space.
- 27-inch wall ovens: Generally pack a little more capacity with around 4 cubic feet inside.
- 30-inch wall ovens: Usually offer capacities between 4.7 - 5.1 cubic feet. Alternatively, you can also find 30-inch models with reduced heights to offer just enough extra cooking space for 1-2 dishes at a time with around 1.7 cubic feet of capacity.
The capacity for double wall ovens is typically double what is noted above. Combination oven capacity would generally be between a single and double oven capacity, and the microwave cavity generally is smaller than a wall oven.
The type of fuel
Your current set-up may dictate the fuel type you choose, so check before shopping for a new oven. You can find gas wall ovens or electric wall ovens in a variety of sizes.
If both will work for your kitchen, take the time to learn the difference between electric and gas ovens so that you can choose the one that will best meet your needs for cooking.
Feature and setting options:
Features and settings vary by brand and model. Here are 3 key features from the Whirlpool brand.

Smart Features
Connected wall ovens enable smarter care. You can remotely preheat the oven from your smartphone while you're busy somewhere else. Alternatively, you can use your voice-enabled device to adjust the cooking time or temperature when your hands are full.* Always check and follow your appliance use and care instructions before beginning any task, as it should be your primary source of information.
